7. Female Pinecone

Conifer cones, or pinecones, are the organ on plants, in the Pinophyta, that contains the reproductive structures. The woody cone pictured is the female cone, which produces seeds. The male cones are usually herbaceous and much less conspicuous even at full maturity. Male cones produce pollen rather than the seeds produced by females.
