1.How does meiosis differ from mitosis? What is the ploidy number of the products in both processes? The main difference between mitosis and meiosis is that mitosis involves the process in which a diploid cell divides into two identical diploid cells. So, basically, a cell that has two entire copies of an organism’s chromosomes splits into two… Continue reading Week Reflection 3/20-3/23
3 things I learned: There are two kinds of genes that can result in caner. One, oncogenes, speed up the cell cycle, while, two, tumor suppressor genes, are what inhibit a defective cell from continuing on in the cell cycle, and are the “brakes” of the cycle. Oncogenes and tumor supressor genes are spread throughout… Continue reading Weekly Response 3,2,1 (3/6-3/10)
Describe the overall structure of a chloroplast and where the two major steps of photosynthesis take places. Talk about the thylakoid and the stroma. Discuss the light reactions (Photosystems I and II, ATP synthase, the electron transport chain) and the Calvin Cycle.
I, unfortunately, missed both Monday and Tuesdays class, so I can only recall what we learned and discussed during Thursday’s class. On Thursday, we mainly learned about the characteristics of the plasma membrane. The plasma membrane is an organelle that is extremely important to the life of a cell. It is through this membrane, also… Continue reading WEEK 12
In class this week we learned about two possible explanations for the first left forms on Earth. The two different hypothesizes were Metabolism first and Replication first. We spilt up into groups and had half the group research metabolism first, and the other half research replication first and when we were done we presented out hypothesizes to the other half of our group and then researched facts to debunk the two hypothesizes.
