13. Animal with Segmented Body

Pictured above in an ant enjoying someone’s leftover cake. The ant is hard to see, but if you look close, you can see that the ant’s body is divided up into multiple segments. This particular ant, the Black Ant, is divided into three segments: the head, thorax and abdomen. The segmented body is believed to be an adaptation to increase movement, resulting in increased mobility and flexibility for the ant (or any organism). An organism has a greater chance of survival if it has increased flexibility and movement.
